OW and Banque des Territoires partner for 500 MW of offshore wind in France

Ocean Winds, an offshore wind joint venture of Engie and EDP Renewables, and France’s Banque des Territoires have announced their partnership for the AO6 wind tender launched by the French government, for two floating offshore wind sites of 250 MW each. Ocean Winds and Banque des Territoires are already partners on the Dieppe Le Tréport and Îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier offshore wind parks and on the EFGL floating wind pilot project currently under construction in the Gulf of Lion, southern France. Ocean Winds is also currently developing 5.6 GW of floating wind projects in South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Earlier in January 2023, the French energy group TotalEnergies and the German utility RWE partnered to submit a joint bid in France’s Centre Manche 2 (AO8) tender for an up to 1.6 GW offshore wind site off the Normandy Region (north-western France).

These calls for tenders are part of France’s ambition to accelerate the development of offshore wind power in the country, with the objective of reaching 40 GW of installed capacity by 2050. France intends to award 2 GW of projects each year from 2024. The 480 MW Saint-Nazaire offshore wind park, located off the coast of the Guérande peninsula in Loire-Atlantique, western France, which is the country’s first commercial-scale offshore wind project, was commissioned in September 2022.
