A consortium of Samsung C&T, Posco E&C, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Osaka Gas, Lithuanian gas company Klaipedos Nafta and two other European subcontractors has submitted a bid for long-term operation and maintenance services for the Cyprus LNG import terminal project. The consortium is taking part in the tender procedure for the design, construction and operation of the terminal, which was launched by the Natural Gas Public Company of Cyprus DEFA in October 2018.
The proposed LNG terminal will be located in Vassilikos and will include an FSRU, a jetty for mooring the FSRU, a jetty borne gas pipeline and related infrastructure. The €500m project is expected to be completed in 2021 and has secured a €100m grant from the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) financial instrument.
Earlier in July 2019, DEFA pre-qualified three joint ventures in the first phase of the tender. The shortlisted bidders include a consortium led by China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering, and including Aktor and Metron; an European consortium of DAMCO, Enagas, GasLog, Snam and Terna; and the consortium of Samsung C&T, Posco E&C, Mitsui OSK Lines and Osaka Gas.
