Danish energy group Ørsted has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to Taiwan Cogeneration Corporation (TCC) for the first 900 MW of the Greater Changhua offshore wind projects off Taiwan, which will include two phases of roughly 450 MW each. The total amount of the contract reaches TWD7bn (approximately US$228m). TCC will be in charge of all onshore deliverables regarding design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the associated onshore substation in the Lun-Wei district, within the Changhua Coastal Industrial Park. Once Ørsted’s final investment decision (FID) is taken, all onshore works are expected to commence in the second quarter of 2019.
Ørsted has been awarded the right to develop 2,400 MW of offshore wind projects off Taiwan's coast. All the Changhua projects will be built gradually between 2021 and 2025 and help Taiwan develop 5,500 MW of offshore wind capacity by 2025 when nuclear power will be phased out.
