The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) approved the construction of two natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants in the Guernsey and Trumbull counties (Ohio, US). Both plants are expected to add more than 1,950 MW of generation capacity to the US power grid by the end of 2020.
Guernsey Power Station, LLC will build the 1,100 MW Guernsey power plant in Valley Township (Guernsey county, Ohio, US). The facility will be supplied with natural gas from the Tallgrass Energy Partners Rockies Express Pipeline. The construction is scheduled to start in December 2017 while commercial operation will begin by October 2020. It will be connected to a 765 kV electric transmission line owned by American Electric Power (AEP).
Clean Energy Future-Trumbull LLC will construct the 940 MW Trumbull Energy Center in the village of Lordstown (Trumbull county, Ohio, US). The company plans to start the construction in November 2017 and the facility is scheduled to begin commercial operation by June 2020. It will be supplied with natural gas through a Dominion East Ohio pipeline and will be connected to a 345 kV electric transmission line owned by American Transmission Systems (AES).
