Ofgem unveils bidders shortlist for wind offshore transmission (UK)

The British Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) published a shortlist of bidders competing to own and operate the transmission links to the Walney (off the Isle of Man and Cumbria, UK) and the 336 MW Galloper (off the coast of Suffolk, UK) offshore wind parks. The selected companies (for both sites) are Diamond Transmission Partners, Mari Energy Transmission and Transmission Capital Partners. The two transmission links will be tendered under the framework of the Offshore Transmission Owner (OFTO) regime and the selected company will connect the wind park facilities for a value of £2bn.

The Walney wind park is developed by Walney (UK) Offshore Windfarms, a JV partnership between DONG Energy (50.1%) and Scottish and Southern Energy (25.1%). Walney 1&2 (in operation) have a total capacity of 367 MW while the Walney extension project is currently under construction and expected to have a capacity of 659 MW.

The 336 MW Galloper offshore wind park broke ground in 2014 while the commissioning is expected to be completed in 2018. The project partners are Innogy SE, UK Green Investment Bank, Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital with 25% each.
