NTPC has unveiled the winners of its auction to develop 1.5 GW of interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar power projects across India under Tranche II. Furies Solren won 300 MW with the lowest tariff at INR2.59/kWh (US$3.12c/kWh), while JSW Neo Energy and Avaada Energy were awarded 700 MW and 500 MW respectively, both at a tariff of INR2.6/kWh (US$3.13c/kWh). The tender was originally floated in December 2023.
In addition, NTPC has launched a new tender to procure 1 GW of wind-solar hybrid power projects across India. The projects will be developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis and connected to the ISTS grid. Bids can be submitted until 16 April 2024.
At the end of 2022, solar and wind accounted for 22% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 63 GW and 42 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW.
