NTPC invites bids for 1.5 GW of solar projects to be built across India

India’s NTPC has invited bids for the development of 1.5 GW of solar power projects across India. The projects need to be established with interstate transmission system connectivity, and bids can be submitted until 29 August 2023. The bidding will take place in a single stage two envelope with reverse auction for the selection of the bidders. The successful bidder’s scope of work will include design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing, and commissioning of the solar project. It will also provide five-year operation and maintenance support for the plant.

At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for over 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW (11%). India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
