NTPC and NHPC invite bids to develop 4.5 GW of renewable capacity in India

The Indian power generation company NTPC has launched two tenders to procure 3 GW of renewable capacity across India. In the first tender, the group has invited bids to set up 1.5 GW of interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects anywhere in India. Bids can be submitted until 17 October 2023 and the minimum capacity of each project has been set at 50 MW.

NTPC also invited bids to set up another 1.5 GW of ISTS-connected solar power projects across India. For this tender, bids can be submitted until 27 October 2023 and the minimum capacity of each project was also set at 50 MW. The maximum capacity to be quoted by a bidder has been set at 750 MW.

In addition, the Indian hydropower company NHPC has also launched a tender inviting bids to procure 1.5 GW of renewable power from ISTS-connected projects, coupled with energy storage systems, to be built anywhere in India. Bids can be submitted until 17 November 2023. Minimum and maximum bid capacities were also set at 50 MW and 750 MW respectively.

At the end of 2022, solar and wind accounted for 22% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 63 GW and 42 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
