Norway plans Sørlige Nordsjø II offshore wind tender in early 2023

The government of Norway has renewed its commitment to develop 30 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2040 and plans to tender the Utsira Nord area and the first phase of Sørlige Nordsjø II in early 2023. Consequently, the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has opened a public consultation on pre-qualification criteria, qualitative criteria and the allocation, auction and support model for the tender; comments are possible until 6 January 2023.

Norway has opened two offshore wind areas in the North Sea for the development of up to 4.5 GW of capacity. Utsira Nord (1.5 GW) and Sørlige Nordsjø II (3 GW). Utsira Nord (1.5 GW) will be allocated for floating wind developments in three 500 MW phases, based on qualitative criteria, rather than through an auction, to facilitate innovation. The 3 GW Sørlige Nordsjø II will be auctioned in two 1.5 GW phases, with the first auction expected by the end of the first quarter of 2023.
