NHPC invites bids to set up 3 GW of solar capacity across India

India’s National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) has invited bids to set up 3 GW of interstate transmission system-connected solar power projects across India. Bids can be submitted until 3 August 2023. The minimum capacity for the tender is set at 50 MW and only in multiples of 10 MW. The cumulative capacity offered must not exceed 1 GW. Selected bidders will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with NHPC and will have to commission the projects within 18 months after signing the PPA.

At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for over 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
