NHPC invites bids to develop 1.2 GW of wind power capacity in six Indian States

The Indian company NHPC has launched a tender for the procurement of 1.2 GW of wind capacity from inter-state transmission system (ISTS)-connected power projects to be developed across several Indian States. The total capacity of 1.2 GW will be awarded for injection at ISTS substations in six states: Tamil Nadu (500 MW), Andhra Pradesh (250 MW), Maharashtra (200 MW), Telangana (100 MW), Madhya Pradesh (100 MW), and Karnataka (50 MW).

Bids can be submitted until 28 February 2024. The minimum project size has been set at 50 MW, with project capacity to be submitted in multiple of 10 MW only, and a single bidder cannot exceed a cumulative capacity of 600 MW.

At the end of 2022, solar and wind accounted for 22% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 63 GW and 42 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW.
