New York (US) awards 1.4 GW project in third offshore wind tender

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has announced the results of the third offshore wind solicitation round, selecting Attentive Energy One - a joint venture of TotalEnergies (40%), Rise Light & Power (35%) and Corio Generation (25%) - to develop a 1.4 GW offshore wind project located 80 km off the coast of New York. The project is expected to be the first renewable repowering of a major fossil fuel generator by replacing a 60-year-old unit at Ravenswood gas- and oil-fired power plant. Negotiations will now begin with NYSERDA on an offtake agreement.

At the federal level, the United States targets 30 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 15 GW of floating offshore wind capacity by 2035 (only 42 MW were operational at the end of 2021).  The US administration has already held three offshore wind lease auctions since 2021, notably in the states of New York and California.
