New South Wales (Australia)  awards 1.4 GW of solar and wind projects in tender

The Australian state of New South Wales (NSW), through its consumer trustee AEMO Services, has selected three renewable power projects with a combined capacity of 1,395 MW in its first competitive tender under the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap. The tender initially offered around 950 MW.

The selected projects are ACEN Autralia's 720 MW New England solar project in the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) and 400 MW Stubbo solar project in the Central West Orana REZ (they should generate 2 TWh/year and 1.1 TWh/year, respectively), and Goldwind Australia's 275 MW Coppabella wind project (expected generation of 870 GWh/year). In addition, RWE's 50 MW/400 MWh Limondale battery energy storage system was selected in the tender. Projects are expected to be commissioned in 2025-2026.

With this tender, New South Wales has secured 4.1 GW of its 12 GW renewable capacity target by 2030.
