The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has awarded two contracts to develop offshore wind projects totalling 2.7 GW off New Jersey (United States) to Ocean Wind 2 and Atlantic Shores.
The 1,510 MW Atlantic Shores offshore wind project is developed by a 50:50 joint venture between EDF and Shell and will be located off the coast of New Jersey between Atlantic City and Barnegat Light. Construction is expected to start in 2024 and the project will sell part of its power generation to a 10 MW green hydrogen pilot project.
The 1,148 MW Ocean Wind 2 offshore wind project is developed by Ørsted, near the Ocean Wind 1 offshore wind project (75% Ørsted, 25% Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG)). The project has secured a 20-year Offshore Renewable Energy Certificate (OREC). Subject to contract signing and Ørsted’s final investment decision (FID), Ocean Wind 2 is expected to be commissioned in 2029.
