Commissioned by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), TGS has finalised a soil survey in the Doordewind wind zone in the Netherlands. The three-dimensional Ultra High-Resolution Seismic (3D UHRS) soil survey, which aims to gather data across the more than 300 km2 area, should be published in early 2025. The study went to a depth of 100 meters to obtain accurate information about the soil conditions for the foundation of wind turbines and the placement of electricity cables. The survey represents an improvement compared to the 2D surveys commissioned for previous wind zones.
The 2 GW Doordewind I and the 2 GW Doordewind II are scheduled to be put up for auction in 2027, with the commissioning expected in 2031. The wind zone is located at approximately 77 km off the north coast of the Netherlands and will be the first wind project to connect to Eemshaven (Groningue, the Netherlands).
At the end of 2023, the Netherlands had a total installed capacity of 59.4 GW, with offshore wind representing 4 GW (7%).
