The Netherlands has released the results of the 2025 SDE++ (Stimulering Duurzame Energieproductie) subsidy round for renewable energy projects, a government support scheme providing multi-year financial assistance to companies developing large-scale projects (Dutch government press release, 06/07/2026). The subsidy scheme covers several technologies, including solar power, wind energy, hydrogen, biomass, heat pumps, and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
A total of 283 projects have been awarded funding, receiving approximately EUR8bn. In addition, applications representing around EUR0.8bn remain under review. “EUR8bn was available for the 2025 SDE++ round. Companies together applied for about EUR22bn” said the government.
A significant share of the allocated budget is dedicated to CO2 capture and storage projects, for which applicants were awarded approximately EUR2.4bn. The number of approved applications for air-to-water heat pumps has doubled compared with 2024, with 66 projects of this type receiving EUR562m in subsidies. Meanwhile, the number of applications for wind turbines and solar panels continues to decline, a trend the government has observed over several years. The approved projects include 86 solar power projects with a combined capacity of 773 MW, compared with 166 solar projects that submitted subsidy applications, representing more than 1 GW of potential capacity. Among the approved solar projects, 33 ground-mounted solar installations with a total capacity of 575 MW were selected, along with 50 rooftop solar projects totalling 140 MW and three floating PV projects with a combined capacity of 58 MW.
The next SDE++ round will open in October 2026 and close in November 2026. The government has also already allocated funding for the SDE++ subsidy scheme from 2027 to 2032, with approximately EUR8bn available per year.
