MSEDCL launches tenders to procure up to 2 GW of solar and wind capacity in India

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (MSEDCL) has launched two tenders to procure a total of up to 2 GW of solar and wind capacity in Maharashtra State and across India. MSEDCL has launched a first tender to procure 1 GW of grid-connected solar power in the State, in which bids can be submitted until 3 April 2024. MSEDCL will enter a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with successful bidders to buy solar power from new or existing solar projects located anywhere in India.

In addition, MSEDCL has launched a second tender to procure 500 MW of wind-solar hybrid power from grid-connected projects in Maharashtra, with an additional greenshoe option of up to 500 MW. Bids can be submitted until 4 April 2024. For both tenders, the minimum project size was set at 50 MW.

At the end of 2022, solar and wind accounted for 22% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 63 GW and 42 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW.
