MSEDCL invites bids for 1 GW of solar projects in Maharashtra (India)

India’s Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has invited bids to procure 1 GW of grid-connected solar power across the state of Maharashtra (central India). The minimum individual project capacity has been set at 2 MW and the maximum at 10 MW.

MSEDCL has set a ceiling tariff of INR3.3/kWh (US$4c/kWh) for the tender. Bids can be submitted until 17 March 2023 and successful bidders will enter a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with MSEDCL. The projects will be connected at distribution network (11/22 KV) in the state.

Earlier in February 2023, MSEDCL invited bids to procure 500 MW of intrastate grid-connected solar power with an additional 500 MW under a greenshoe option. In December 2022 and January 2023, the company also invited bids to procure a total of 800 MW of solar projects across the state.

At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for over 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
