The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) has unveiled the winners of its auction to procure 1,650 MW of wind-solar hybrid power from grid-connected intrastate projects, with a greenshoe option of up to 1,650 MW. The tender was originally floated in July 2024 for a capacity of 1,150 MW, which was later increased to 1,650 MW.
MSEDCL awarded 1,650 MW in total. JSW Neo secured a total of 600 MW (200 MW initially plus 400 MW under the greenshoe option), while Avaada Energy won 500 MW (13 MW plus 487 MW greenshoe). Tata Power was awarded 400 MW (200 MW plus 200 MW greenshoe) and Juniper Green secured 150 MW (75 MW plus 75 MW greenshoe). All four winners secured their capacity at a tariff of INR3.60/kWh (US$4.28c/kWh).
At the end of 2023, solar and wind accounted for nearly 24% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 73 GW and 45 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW.
