The Mexican hydrocarbon regulator, National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH), plans to auction 14 contracts for onshore exploration and production licenses in July 2017, as part of the third phase of its Round Two oil tender.
The blocks to be offered in the tender will include 25 fields in the Burgos basin, Tampico-Misantla, the Southeast basins and in the state of Veracruz. Five fields in the Southeast basins are expected to hold light crude and gas reserves, while the remaining nine fields should hold rich gas, lean gas, crude or condensate resources.
In July 2016, the CNH approved contracts and auction terms for 15 shallow water blocks in the southern Gulf of Mexico, launching the first phase of the Round Two tender ("2.1 round"). The 15 shallow water blocks, located off the coasts of Vera Cruz, Tabasco and Campeche, hold nearly 650 mboe of crude oil in proven reserves. The second phase of the Round Two tender will focus on a dozen of onshore oil and gas fields in the Burgos basin, in the south-east basin and in the southern state of Chiapas; winners will be announced on 7 April 2017.
