Malaysia's Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra) has launched an auction to expand cross-border electricity trading to Singapore. Power companies, with retailer or wholesaler licenses in Singapore, are invited to apply to sale green energy from Malaysia’s power supply system to Singapore. The overall capacity offered under the Energy Exchange Malaysia (ENEGEM) Auction 2025 was not disclosed.
The Enegem programme was established in April 2024 to facilitate cross-border green electricity trade between Malaysia and its neighbouring countries. In particular, Malaysia seeks to support trade of up to 300 MW of electricity to Singapore using existing infrastructure. The first auction under this program was conducted in 2024, resulting in a 50 MW solar and hydropower deal between Malaysian utility Tenaga Nasional and Singapore's Sembcorp Power.
Malaysia is interconnected with Singapore through three 230 kV submarine cables with a combined capacity of 1 300 MW.
