Maharashtra state invites bids for 600 MW of solar projects (India)

Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO) has invited bids to set up 600 MW of solar power projects in the Indian state of Maharashtra (central India). The tender will comprise of six 100 MW solar projects divided between six regions of the Maharashtra state.

The projects will be allotted in the Nagpur, Amravati, Aurangabad, Konkan, Nashik and Pune regions. The individual solar project capacity will range from 2 MW to 10 MW and successful bidders will have to provide operation and maintenance for a minimum of 25 years. Bids can be submitted until 19 October 2022. Bidders must submit a deposit INR1m/MW (US$12,500/MW) in the form of a bank guarantee.

Bidders must arrange land for the projects. It could be their own land or leased land near the 11 kV substation owned by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation (MSEDCL). In addition, MAHAGENCO will sign power purchase agreements with the selected solar power developers. 

Earlier in August 2022, MSEDCL already awarded 500 MW of grid-connected intrastate solar projects in Maharashtra.

Solar accounts for 12% of India’s installed capacity, with 49.3 GW (end-2021). Since 2016, India has commissioned on average 7.4 GW/year of solar projects, including a record 11.9 GW in 2021. The country aims to develop 175 GW of renewable power capacity by 2022, including 100 GW of solar.
