Maharashtra (India) initiates a tender for 500 MW of solar power projects

The Indian regional power utility Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) has issued a tender to procure 500 MW of interstate or intrastate grid-connected long-term solar power projects. The minimum project capacity for a single bidder is 50 MW, while the maximum project capacity goes up to the whole 500 MW. Bids can be submitted until 30 August 2022. The company will enter into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the selected bidders to buy electricity for 25 years from the scheduled commercial operation date (for new projects) or from the PPA execution date (for existing projects).

Recently, MSEDCL already invited bids to develop 1 GW (July 2022) and 500 MW (June 2022) of solar power projects in Maharashtra. In 2021, solar accounted for 12% of India’s installed capacity with 49.3 GW . Since 2016, the country has commissioned more than 40 GW of solar projects, including a record 11.9 GW in 2021. India aims to develop 450 GW of solar and wind power capacity by 2030.
