Madhya Pradesh (India) plans to build a 1.4 GW solar project

The state of Madhya Pradesh (India) plans to build a 1.4 GW solar plant near the Behrara Mata Temple in Morena district. Around 70% of the land required for the project has already been allotted. The project, which is to be built under the solar park scheme, is developed by Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (MPUVNL) and is expected to be commissioned in 2023. About 70% of its output will go to Madhya Pradesh, and 30% of the electricity can be voluntarily supplied to anyone by the company setting up a solar power plant.

Solar accounts for 12% of the country's installed capacity, with 49.3 GW (end-2021). Since 2016, India has commissioned on average 7.4 GW/year of solar projects, including a record 11.9 GW in 2021. The country aims to develop 175 GW of renewable power capacity by 2022, including 100 GW of solar.
