Lyon Group will build Australia's largest PV & storage park

The Australian energy investor Lyon Group has announced it will start to build the Riverland project, a US$767m combined PV and battery storage park, which will be Australia's largest facility of this kind. The construction will start in June 2017 and the commissioning is expected in December 2017.

The Riverland facility will encompass a 330 MW of solar PV, of which 3.4 m solar panels and a 100MW/400MWh lithium-ion battery storage facility. The project will be connected to the Australian National Electric Market (NEM) which is the country's wholesale electricity market. Grid negotiations are currently at an advanced stage.

In 2016, the Lyon Group announced another smaller solar and battery storage facility in Roxby Downs (South Australia), the Kingfisher project. It is expected to come onstream by mid-2018.

The Kingfisher project will be deployed in two stages:

- The first stage is scheduled before September 2017 and will deliver 20 MW of solar PV and a minimum of 2 MWh lithium-based battery storage.

- The second stage will commission 100 MW of solar PV ans a minimum 20 MWh of battery storage.
