Lebanon’s Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) has issued a Call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for new electricity generation projects, including 350 MW of solar PV capacity and 1,000 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The EOI includes:
- Up to five grid-connected solar PV projects with a combined installed capacity of 350 MW, supported by BESS with a total storage capacity of 1,000 MWh.
- Distributed dual-fired thermal power plants with net generation capacities ranging from 20 MW to 100 MW, configured to operate primarily on natural gas and using Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) as a backup fuel.
The invitation is open to developers, investors, independent power producers (IPPs), EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, and consortia, which are invited to submit their technical, financial, and project development credentials.
Lebanon’s electricity sector continues to face significant challenges, including insufficient generation capacity, aging infrastructure, fuel shortages, and grid losses, leaving the country heavily reliant on imported fuels for electricity generation.
