A consortium led by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has been selected as preferred bidder for an 800 MW offshore wind project in Jeonbuk (South Korea), part of a wider 2.4 GW development off Buan County, Jeonbuk. The project requires majority public ownership (Chosun, 29/06/2026).
The KHNP consortium comprises 10 major companies, including Korea East-West Power, KEPCO KPS, KEPCO Engineering & Construction Company (KEPCO E&C), Hanwha Ocean, Doosan Enerbility, IBK Financial Group, Samil C&S, and Jungang Offshore & Heavy Industries. It is expected to sign an implementation agreement with the provincial authorities by the end of August 2026.
South Korea aims to reach 12 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and to reach at least 6 GW of onshore wind by 2030 according to its new onshore wind strategy released in December 2025.
