JSW Energy has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd for a greenfield 1,600 MW (2x800 MW) super/ultra-supercritical (USC) coal-fired power power at its Salboni coal-fired power plant project, doubling the site’s capacity to 3,200 MW.
The project, using domestic coal, will be commissioned within six years, bringing JSW’s total secured thermal capacity to 10,658 MW and overall locked-in capacity to 32.1 GW (including 13.3 GW operational and 14 GW under construction).
Earlier in January 2026, JSW Thermal Energy contracted Toshiba JSW Power Systems for 800 MW steam turbine generators for the first Salboni phase.
