17 Jan 2014
The Japanese government, through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is to grant Mozambique a Yen 17.27bn (US$167m) for the construction of a 100 MW gas-fired CCGT power plant in Maputo. The plant will be built on the site of the SONEFE coal and oil-fired power plant, that was decommissioned shortly after the end of the war. Commissioning of the new plant is expected in 2018.
