Italy receives 1.7 GW of bids for its first agrivoltaic tender

The Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) has reported a total of 643 bids totalling 1.7 GW in its first agrivoltaic tender, which would require a total investment of about €920m to subsidize. About 56% of the received bids have come from the Italy’s southern regions.

The auction was open to projects of any size, with only vertical mounting structures or high-efficiency PV modules from agricultural entrepreneurs or groups with at least one agricultural operator involved. Selected developers will receive rebates covering up to 40% of installation costs and feed-in tariffs for energy fed into the grid. The final allocation announcement is expected to be published at a later date.

The agrivoltaic tender is in line with Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), has a €1.1bn budget to deploy around 1.04 GW of solar capacity by June 2026. At the end of 2023, Italy had a total installed capacity of 127 GW, of which solar represented almost 24% (over 30 GW).
