Italy awards only 1.5 GW of renewable capacity in a 4.8 GW auction

The Italian energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE) has published the results of the seventh auction for renewable capacity under the country’s new renewable support scheme. A total quota of 4,825 MW was offered but the call for projects was largely under subscribed, with only 1,829 MW of bids submitted (around 38% of the available capacity). In total, the country allocated only 1,470 MW of capacity (30% of the available capacity).

In addition, GSE has launched an eighth tender to allocate 3,350 MW of renewables not assigned in the prior rounds, including 2,346 MW of wind and solar, 110 MW of hydro and 427 MW for repowering wind and hydro. Bids are open until 2 March 2022. The tender’s results will be released on 31 May 2022.
