The Italian energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE) has published the results of its latest 500 MW renewable auction, in which it selected 18 onshore wind projects with a cumulated capacity of 495 MW and a single 5 MW solar project. Project developers could offer reductions of between 2% and 70% on the price ceiling of €70/MWh. Successful bid ranged between €48.65/MWh and €66.50/MWh. The only selected PV project submitted a bid of €60/MWh. The auction was open to projects with capacity higher than 1 MW and located in urban or industrial areas; selected wind projects range between 14 MW and 84 MW and are located in Campania, Basilicata, Sardinia, Sicily and Puglia (plus a 20 MW project in Liguria). Winners will have to develop and commission the projects within 31 months to qualify for financial support.
The latest auction was held in 2016 when 800 MW of new capacity was awarded at €66/MWh. The new auction is part of an auction scheme approved in June 2019, that planned contracting 4.8 GW of renewable capacity through auctions over the next 30 months. The first two rounds will offer 500 MW, while the next three rounds will offer 700 MW and the final two rounds will offer 800 MW.
