The Italian energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE) has published the results of its latest 500 MW renewable auction, in which its selected 18 wind projects with a cumulated capacity of 406 MW and 4 solar projects with a combined capacity of 19 MW. The auction was open to projects with capacity higher than 1 MW and located in urban or industrial areas. The tender had a €70/MWh price ceiling; successful bids ranged between €56/MWh and €68.4/MWh for wind power and €56/MWh and €66/MWh for solar. Winners will have to develop and commission the projects within 31 months to qualify for financial support.

In January 2020, the GSE selected 18 onshore wind projects with a cumulated capacity of 495 MW and a single 5 MW solar project. Successful bid ranged between €48.65/MWh and €66.50/MWh. The auction was part of an auction scheme approved in June 2019, that planned contracting 4.8 GW of renewable capacity through auctions over the next 30 months. The first two rounds will offer 500 MW, while the next three rounds will offer 700 MW and the final two rounds will offer 800 MW.
