Israel will allocate 2 GW of national grid capacity for renewable power

Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced that the country will allocate more than 2 additional GW of power in the national electricity grid to connect renewable energy facilities, mostly solar. The decision will allow the state-owned power company Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) to connect several new high-scale renewable energy facilities, mainly in the north and south of Israel.

Israel targets 20% of power produced from renewable sources in 2025. The country’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has thus announced that the entities responsible will continue to advance medium and long-term solutions for the national grid, with a scope of about ILS17bn (US$4.5bn) to 2030. This development program is intended to facilitate a larger intake of power from renewable sources, as well as the construction of storage installations with a capacity of hundreds of megawatts.
