Innogy and TenneT plan to connect the North Sea Wind Power Hub (Germany)

The German/Dutch power transmission system operator (TSO) TenneT and the German utility Innogy (a subsidiary of RWE) have signed a letter of intent (LoI) to jointly investigate on offshore wind cross borders interconnectors across the North Sea. Both companies will study the feasible design options, the economic rationale and the regulatory market conditions for the development of the required infrastructure.

TenneT has a solid offshore wind transmission infrastructure track record and has completed 7 high voltage direct current (HVDC) and 3 HVAC offshore wind power connections in Germany with a total combined capacity of 5.3 GW. The company has a connection project pipeline reaching 3.5 GW in the Netherlands (for 2023) and 10.4 GW in Germany (by 2025).

Innogy has been involved in the development of 2.5 GW of offshore wind capacity in Europe and is responsible for several key offshore wind projects such as the 860 MW Triton Knoll project in the UK and the 325 MW Kaskasi facility in Germany.
