India’s SECI unveils winners of its latest 2 GW solar+storage tender

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has unveiled the winners of its latest auction (Tranche XVII) to develop 2 GW of ISTS-connected solar power projects in India, integrated with 1 GW/4 GWh energy storage systems.

NTPC Renewable Energy secured 500 MW at a tariff of INR3.52/kWh (US$4.15c/kWh), while Hero Solar Energy was awarded 270 MW at the same tariff. Sembcorp Green Infra and Solarcraft Power India both obtained 150 MW, also at a tariff of INR3.52/kWh. Finally, Reliance Power secured 930 MW at a tariff of INR.3.53/kWh (US$4.16c/kWh). Energy storage systems must be installed alongside each project, with a minimum capacity of 0.5 MW/2 MWh for every 1 MW of project capacity.

At the end of 2023, solar and wind accounted for nearly 24% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 73 GW and 45 GW. India plans to connect 30 to 35 GW of solar and wind energy capacity to its grid during the fiscal year 2024-2025, and plans to eventually increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW by 2030.
