The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has unveiled the winners of its Tranche XI auction for 2 GW interstate transmission system-connected solar projects in India. The totality of the capacity was awarded to six companies. SAEL and ReNew Power both secured winning bids for 600 MW at a tariff of INR2.60/kWh (US$3.17c/kWh). Three other companies were selected with the same tariff: Eden Renewables secured a contract for 300 MW, Jakson secured 200 MW and Shiva Corporation secured a 100 MW project. Avaada Energy secured 200 MW at a tariff of INR2.61/kWh (US$3.18c/kWh).
In April 2023, SECI announced the auction results for its interstate transmission system-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects tender, in which the company allocated the totality of the 1.2 GW capacity tendered. In June 2023, SECI had unveiled the winners of its wind power auction for interstate transmission system-connected wind power projects across India (Tranche-XIV). The auction was undersubscribed, as SECI only allotted 690 MW of the original tendered capacity of 1.2 GW.
At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for over 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
