The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has selected the winners from two reverse auctions totalling 2.4 GW for wind-solar hybrid projects (1.2 GW) and wind projects (1.2 GW), held in May 2022.
India’s NTPC Renewable Energy was awarded 450 MW in wind-solar hybrid projects in the first auction and 200 MW wind power projects in the second. Tariffs are INR2.53/kWh (US$3c/kWh) and INR2.89/kWh (US$4c/kWh) respectively. Tata Power Saurya limited, a subsidiary of India’s Tata Power Company, was awarded 600 MW for wind-solar hybrid projects for a tariff of INR2.53/kWh (US$3c/kWh).
The remaining capacity was awarded to AMP Energy Green (120 MW) for the first auction and to Halvad Renewables (300 MW), JSW Neo Energy (300 MW) and Torrent Power (300 MW) for the second auction.
In addition, Renewable Energy Management Center Limited (REMC), on behalf of state-owned company India Railways, has invited bids to set up an aggregate 1.5 GW capacity of land-based solar at 25 kV connectivity. The capacity is to be installed on a build-own-operate basis across different zonal railways. Bids will be opened on 18 August 2022 for the 1 GW tender and on 13 September 2022 for the 1.5 GW tender.
REMC has also launched a tender for 1 GW of grid-connected renewable power projects, with or without energy storage systems (ESS), that can be located anywhere in India, in order to develop a continuous power supply to different zonal railways. A single developer can bid for 250 MW up to the entire 1 GW capacity.
