India's SECI awards 1.2 GW of wind power projects

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has awarded 1,200 MW of wind projects as part of the Tranche XI auction for 1,200 MW of interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind power projects in India. 300 MW were awarded to ReNew Power, 180 MW to Green Infra Wind Energy (Sembcorp) and 150 MW to Anupavan Renewables (EverGreen) at a tariff of INR2.69/kWh (US$3.69c/kWh). In addition, Adani Renewable Energy won 450 MW and Azure Power 120 MW at INR2.70/kWh (US$3.7c/kWh). The discovered tariff of this auction is nearly 3% lower than the lowest bid in the Tranche X auction.

The tender was initiated in May 2021. Project developers were allowed to bid for a minimum capacity of 50 MW, and up to a maximum of 1,200 MW until 6 July 2021. The successful projects, which are to be developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis, will have to be completed within 18 months and will sign 25-year power purchase agreements (PPA) with SECI. SECI will then sell procured power to distribution companies of Madhya Pradesh.
