The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has recently increased its ambitious Solar Park Scheme for the development of solar parks and ultra mega solar power projects from 20 GW to 40 GW. The government plans to set up at least 50 MW solar parks with a capacity of 500 MW with the support of the MNRE and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and the timeline of the projects' implementation has been extended from 2019-2020 to 2021-2022. It has released a list of approved solar parks with a total combined capacity of 26,449 MW, which will be built in several Indian states.
As of 30 June 2018, India reached 23,866 MW of cumulative domestic solar power deployment, of which 21,803 MW for ground-mounted capacity (+ 1,215 MW of additional capacity over the April-June 2018 period), 1,219 MW for rooftop capacity and 737 MW for SPV systems (captive power and off-grid). Besides, the MNRE also reported 34,293 MW of cumulative installed wind power capacity (+ 148 MW of additional capacity over the period).
