India’s Ministry of Power has launched a scheme for the procurement of 4.5 GW of aggregate electricity for five years under of the SHAKTI (Scheme for Harnessing and Allocating Koyala Transparently in India) policy. The plan is expected to support Indian states that are experiencing power shortages.
Under the scheme, the Indian company PFC Consulting, mandated by the ministry, has invited bids for the supply of the required 4.5 GW capacity, which will begin from April 2023. Bids can be submitted until 21 December 2022. In addition, India’s Ministry of Coal has been requested to allocate around 27 Mt/year of coal for this scheme.
Several Indian utilities have showed interest for the scheme, including Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Ltd (MPPMCL), New Delhi Municipal Corporation and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco).
