India’s Maharashtra state invites bids for 1 GW of solar projects

India’s Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) has invited bids to develop 1 GW of solar power projects in the Maharashtra state (central India) in a new tender. The minimum individual project capacity is 2 MW, and the maximum is 10 MW. Bids can be submitted until 1 August 2022.

MSEDCL has set a ceiling tariff of INR3.1/kWh (US$3.9c/kWh) for the tender and bidders will have to submit INR100,000/MW (US$1,267/MW) as deposit. Successful bidders will have to give INR500,000/MW (US$6,339/MW) before signing the power purchase agreement (PPA).

In June 2022, MSEDCL had already opened a tender for 500 MW of intrastate grid-connected solar power projects. Earlier, in February 2022, MSEDCL also issued a request to procure 865 MW of solar power from existing and new projects.

In 2021, solar accounted for 12% of India’s installed capacity with 49.3 GW and about 3% of its power generation with 51 TWh . Since 2016, India has commissioned more than 40 GW of solar projects, including a record 11.9 GW in 2021. The country aims to develop 450 GW of solar and wind power capacity by 2030.
