India’s GUVNL invites bids for up to 1.2 GW of solar in Gujarat

India’s Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL) has invited bids to procure 600 MW of grid-connected solar projects at the Khavda Solar Park in the state of Gujarat (western India), with a greenshoe option for an additional 600 MW of capacity. Bids for this Phase XXI project can be submitted until 1 August 2023 and successful bidders will enter a power purchase agreement (PPA) with GUVNL.

In addition, GUVNL unveiled the winners of its previous tender for the Khavda Solar Park (Phase XX), which was floated in May 2023 and was intended to award 800 MW of solar capacity. KPI Energy won 100 MW capacity at INR2.70/kWh (US$3.3c/kWh), SAEL Industries was awarded 400 MW at INR2.71/kWh and NLC India was awarded 300 MW at INR2.71/kWh.

At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for over 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW, while hydropower capacity surpassed 51 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW and meet 50% of its energy requirements from renewables by 2030.
