Two power distribution companies in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, Southern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh (APSPDCL) and the Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh (APEPDCL), have issued a Request for Selection (RfS) for the development of 600 MW of hybrid wind-solar projects with a battery storage component.
The minimum bid capacity has been set at 200 MW with individual project capacities of 50 MW minimum. However, they will also be allowed to bid for the whole targeted capacity of 600 MW. Successful bidders will be awarded 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the two companies. The deadline for the submission of bids has been set on 18 March 2019.
Andhra Pradesh has recently issued its Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Policy-2018 to bolster domestic projects and has set the target to achieve 18,000 MW of renewable energy capacity by the financial year 2021-2022, which will account for 10% of India's nationwide objective. According to figures released by the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in February 2019, the state's total renewable capacity reached 7,628 MW at the end of January 2019, of which 4,076 MW and 2,889 MW for wind and solar (rooftop and ground-mounted) capacities, respectively.
