India launches tenders for 4 GW of offshore wind and 810 MW of solar capacity

India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has issued a tender to select wind power developers for leasing sea-bed areas with the potential to host 4 GW of offshore wind projects off the coast of the Tamil Nadu state (southern India). The scope of the tender includes grid-connectivity and long-term open access. Bids can be submitted until 28 November 2022. Bidders will have to submit INR10m (US$123,500) per project as a deposit and will have to commission their projects within 4 years of the effective date of agreement.

In addition, Rajasthan’s power generation company, RVUNL, has opened a tender to develop 810 MW of state transmission utility connected solar power projects in the state of Rajasthan (northwestern India). Bids can be submitted until 4 January 2023 and RVUNL will enter a 25-year power purchase agreement with the selected bidders. The projects will be set up in Rajasthan’s 2 GW Ultra Mega Solar Park, which is being developed in the Bikaner district.

At the end of 2021, solar and wind accounted for nearly 20% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 49 GW and 40 GW. The country aims to develop 175 GW of renewable capacity by the end of 2022, including 100 GW of solar.
