Iberdrola orders Vestas turbines for 476 MW offshore wind park (Germany)

Spanish energy group Iberdrola has selected MHI Vestas Offshore Wind as preferred turbine supplier for the 476 MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind project next to the island of Rügen in the German part of the Baltic Sea. Up to 52 units of the V174-9.5 MW offshore wind turbine will be deployed on the site. Their delivery and installation is currently scheduled for 2022-2023. The 476 MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind project will be located 75 km from the German coast and will be connected to the Lubmin station via two new high voltage cables by 50Hertz.

This project is Iberdrola's second major offshore initiative in Germany after the launch of the 350 MW Wikinger wind park in 2017. Once complete, Baltic Eagle (476 MW), Wikinger (350 MW) and Wikinger Süd (10 MW) will have a total combined capacity of 836 MW for a total investment of €2.5bn. They are expected to cover 45% of the electricity consumption in the state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania (Germany).
