Iberdrola inaugurates its 350 MW Wikinger offshore wind park (Germany)

Spanish energy group Iberdrola has inaugurated its 350 MW Wikinger offshore wind project located off the island of Rügen in the German part of the Baltic Sea. The wind park, which features 70 Siemens Gamesa AD 5-135 model 5 MW turbines and is already fully operational, is expected to account for 20% of the energy demand of the state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania (Germany).

Iberdrola is working on several other offshore projects in Germany, namely the 476 MW Baltic Eagle and 10 MW Wikinger Süd wind parks. Once all are completed, Iberdrola will have a total combined capacity of 836 MW for a total investment of €2.5bn, of which €1.4bn for Wikinger only. The three projects will contribute to 45% of the consumption in the state of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania.

Iberdrola also has offshore wind projects in the United Kingdom, France and the United States. In the United Kingdom, the group commissioned the 389 MW West of Duddon Sands offshore wind park in the Irish Sea in 2014 and is building the 714 MW East Anglia One wind project in the North Sea.

Iberdrola is also developing the 496 MW Saint-Brieuc offshore wind project off the coast of Brittany in northern France, and the 800 MW Vineyard Wind project off the Massachusetts coast (United States).
