Hungary selects 72 projects (132 MW) in renewable auction

The Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) has announced the winners of the country's  first technology-neutral renewable power auction launched in October 2019. MEKH had earmarked a total of HUF1bn (€3m) under the renewable power support scheme METÁR, corresponding to up to 200 GWh/year over 15 years. The auction was aimed at awarding feed-in premiums to renewable projects with an installed capacity comprised between 0.3 and 20 MW; the total allocation was HUF333m (€1m) or 66 GWh/year for projects up to 1 MW and HUF667m (€2m) or 134 GWh/year for projects between 1 and 20 MW.

The MEKH received 168 proposals and selected 72 bids (193 GWh/year), including 61 projects up to 1 MW that will receive HUF 208m/year (lowest bid of HUF 21.2/kWh, i.e. €5.9c/kWh) and 11 projects up to 20 MW that will receive HUF21m/year (lowest bid of HUF 20.2/kWh i.e. €5.6c/kWh). All the selected projects are solar PV, except for one 500 kW landfill gas-fired power plant. The winning projects must be commercially operational within 3 years (i.e. by March 2023).
