Hungary selects 36 solar projects (210 MW) in second renewable auction

The Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) has announced the winners of the country's second METAR technology-neutral renewable power auction launched in July 2020. The MEKH received 257 proposals totalling around 2 TWh/year for 390 GWh/year available. The regulator selected 36 bids totalling 210 MW (343 GWh/year), including 6 large projects between 1 MW and 50 MW (total capacity of 185 MW and expected production of 303 GWh/year) that will receive HUF600m/year (average bid of HUF17.2/kWh, i.e. €4.8c/kWh). It also selected 30 projects between 300 kW and 1 MW (total capacity of 25 MW and production of 40 GWh/year) that will receive HUF275m/year (average bid of HUF22.4/kWh i.e. €6.2c/kWh). All the selected projects are solar PV. The winning projects must be commercially operational within 3 years (i.e. by February 2024). EDP Renovaveis won a 15-year contract-for-difference (CfD) for a 50 MW solar project.
