Hive Energy and Wirsol plan 350MW subsidy-free solar project in the UK

The British firm Hive Energy and the German solar company Wirsol Energy have just revealed a proposal for the 350 MW Cleve Hill Solar project, which would be developed on the Kent coast near the village of Graveney in the United Kingdom. Besides its sheer size, the two project developers plan to build the park entirely on a subsidy-free basis. They estimate that falling technology costs, economies of scale and the large capacity of the solar plant will help the project to work without subsidies.

If the project gets the go-ahead from the UK relevant authorities, it will start producing power by 2020. A Development Consent Order (DCO) is planned to be submitted through the Planning Inspectorate and the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in summer 2018.
